Laura Rogora 8b+ onsight and 9a redpoint at Montsant and Margalef, Spain

Italy's Laura Rogora is continuing her winter climbing holiday in Spain at breakneck pace and after her recent redpoint of the 8c+/9a Pal Norte at Margalef, the climber from Rome has now concentrated her efforts on the full grade and come up trumps after just two days of effort on the 9a La Bongada at the same crag. This is her fifth 9a after Grandi Gesti at the Grotta dell'Arenauta in Sperlonga in 2016, Joe-cita at Oliana in 2017, Escalamasters at Perles and Rèveille-toi at Collepardo in 2019.

Even more impressively, a few hours earlier the 18-year-old had succeeded in raising her game by onsighting her first 8b+, L-mens Montsant. Interestingly, it is at this conglomerate crag that Josune Bereziartu became the first woman in the world to onsight this grade back in 2005. In the meantime others have followed suit, but the list is short and includes the likes of Maja Vidmar (2010), Sasha DiGiulian (2011), Kajsa Rosén (2016) and Anak Verhoeven (2019). It’s worth remembering that no woman has yet onsighted 8c.
