Claudia Ghisolfi climbs TCT 9a at Gravere in Italy
Claudia Ghisolfi has reached the legendary 9a threshold with her repeat, after a 15-minute battle last Wednesday, of TCT at Gravere in NE Italy. The climb in Val di Susa was freed by her brother Stefano Ghisolfi in 2014 and named in honour of young climber Tito Claudio Traversa who perished tragically a year earlier. The route connects the hardest sections of L'extrema cura 8c and Base jump 8b+ and in the past it has been onsighted by both Adam Ondra (2014) and Alexander Megos (2017), while last September it made headline news when it was repeated by 12-year-old Gianluca Vighetti.
Claudia knew her moves perfectly since in 2018 L'extrema cura became her first 8c, while earlier this summer she sent Base jump. All that remained was to make the the link, which she did as soon as the temperatures dropped. Her first 9a comes after having climbed two 8c+ last year, Noia at Andonno and L'extrema cura Plus at Gravere, and marks an amazing comeback after she injured her shoulder at the Villars World Cup in July 2021.
With her ascent Ghisolfi is now only the second Italian woman to have sent 9a, after Laura Rogora grabbed the title in 2016. Curiously, the Ghisolfi’s are probably the first brother - sister siblings to send 9a.
