Claudia Ghisolfi grand on Noia 8c+ at Andonno
On Saturday 8 May Claudia Ghisolfi demonstrated pure grit and determination in sending Noia at Andonno, Italy’s first-ever 8c+ freed by Seve Scassa on 14 February 1993 and, even today, an important test for the world’s elite.
In its almost thirty years of existence the route had only been climbed once previously by a woman, precisely 20 years ago by Basque powerhouse Josune Bereziartu, and now its the youngest Ghisolfi sibling to successfully link the 65 moves that not only heralded a new era of difficulty to Italy, but also gave a new meaning to the concept of power endurance.
Just like Marcello Bombardi who redpointed Lapsus on Thursday, the 24-year-old started attempting Noia last autumn, sometimes walking up to the crag with her snowshoes in order to work the sequences. having sent three 8c’s between 2019 and 2020 and, worth underlining, flashed an 8a+ in Germany’s Frankenjura in 2017, Ghisolfi clipped the chains of one one of the most important sports climbs in Italy on Saturday afternoon. Grand.
