Janja Garnbret and Mickael Mawem, and Ai Mori and Jakob Schubert, know that only half the job is done. After the former were crowned Boulder World Champion and the latter Lead World Champions, the four are back on stage in Bern today along with 36 other athletes to compete in what is arguably the biggest competition of this 10-day tour du force, namely the Olympic Combined.

This new discipline combines Boulder and Lead since, unlike Tokyo 2020, the Olympic Games Paris 2024 will see medals awarded to Speed athletes separately. The combined discipline made its official debut at European Climbing Championships in Munich last year and after that first test, Bern will now award the first batch of 10 Olympic quota places for the next Olympics.

The best 40 athletes from this year's World Championships have automatically qualified for the Semifinals and today promises to be an extremely long and tough day with the Women’s Boulder scheduled to start at 9:00am, followed by the Men's Boulder at 13:00 and the Women's & Men's Lead at 20:30.
