Like so many climbers, Jakob Schubert trained at home during the first phase of the Coronavirus pandemic. After 36 days, however, the Austrian government eased its lockdown rules and the 29-year-old from Innsbruck immediately hit the crags with a rapid series of ascents: Weiße Rose 9a repeated at Schleierwasserfall, Walk the line 9a first ascent in the Zillertal after repeating Traumschiff 8B+ and Nihilist sit 8B+ earlier that day.

In this video Schubert discusses this particular period, shares his beta on the climbs but, Schubert being Schubert, has already gone one stage further; his most recent repeats of the ultra-classic 8c+ Gambit at Schleierwasserfall and his quick repeat of Jorg Verhoeven’s Der Weg zur Quelle 8c+ up in Zillertal aren’t featured.
