Jakob Schubert claims third ascent of Perfecto Mundo 9b+ at Margalef
As per tradition as soon as the Lead World Cup ends many of the world’s best athletes finally unleash their energy on Spain’s premier crags, finally touching the rock after months of competing on plastic.
Someone who knows how to make the most of this time out is Jakob Schubert who in the past had used this opportunity to climb the 9b’s Fight or Flight at Oliana (2014), La planta de Shiva at Villanueva del Rosario (2016), Stoking the Fire at Santa Linya (2018) and Neanderthal at Santa Linya (2018).
Earlier today the Austrian climbing machine upped his game by sending his first 9b+, Perfecto Mundo at Margalef. This route through the immense overhang was bolted by Chris Sharma some years back before being freed by Alexander Megos in May 2018 and repeated later the same year by Stefano Ghislofi.
Prior to his redpoint Schubert fell four times from after the crux, which contains a crazy dyno from a single-finger pocket. With this ascent Schubert has now become only the fifth climber in the world able to climb 9b+, after Adam Ondra, Chris Sharma, Alexander Megos and Stefano Ghisolfi. To end the day off in style, he then made swift work of Gancho Perfecto 9a/9a+. What a Perfecto day!
