As per tradition as soon as the Lead World Cup ends many of the world’s best athletes finally unleash their energy on Spain’s premier crags, finally touching the rock after months of competing on plastic.

Someone who knows how to make the most of this time out is Jakob Schubert who in the past had used this opportunity to climb the 9b’s Fight or Flight at Oliana (2014), La planta de Shiva at Villanueva del Rosario (2016), Stoking the Fire at Santa Linya (2018) and Neanderthal at Santa Linya (2018).

Earlier today the Austrian climbing machine upped his game by sending his first 9b+, Perfecto Mundo at Margalef. This route through the immense overhang was bolted by Chris Sharma some years back before being freed by Alexander Megos in May 2018 and repeated later the same year by Stefano Ghislofi.

Prior to his redpoint Schubert fell four times from after the crux, which contains a crazy dyno from a single-finger pocket. With this ascent Schubert has now become only the fifth climber in the world able to climb 9b+, after Adam Ondra, Chris Sharma, Alexander Megos and Stefano Ghisolfi. To end the day off in style, he then made swift work of Gancho Perfecto 9a/9a+. What a Perfecto day!

PERFECTO MUNDO [9b+]What a day, after failing four times after the crux, two days ago even on the very last hard move above the lip it was an incredible relief to clip the chains of this amazing line today! 3rd ascent after my buddies @alexandermegos and @steghiso At the beginning of this year I already had the goal to try sending this route this fall but to do so I told myself I got to qualify for the Olympics already at the WCH in Tokyo. After fulfilling this goal in the summer I rewarded myself to skip the last few Worldcups and focus on Perfecto Mundo instead and it all payed off The cherry on top was a quick ascent of Gancho Perfecto [9a/9a+] to end an already perfect day! Thanks a lot to all the great people supporting me at the crag and of course special thanks to my brothers @domen_skofic , @alfons_dornauer and my girlfriend @pumkin_honey Photo by @alpsolut_pictures (It‘s all on film as well! #margalef #rockclimbing #9b+ #canitgetanybetter #sopsyched #myinnsbruck @mammut_swiss1862 @lasportivagram @heeressportzentrum @raiffeisen @innsbrucktourism @thecrag_worldwide
