Climbing at Badami, India
Gerhard Schaar
Gerhard Schaar from Austria has just completed a busy two months in India where, with the help of local climbers, he has established over 50 new routes in Badami and Ramanagaram.

The personal initiative, entitled “Bolts for Bangalore” and financed through private donations and corporate sponsors, was Schaar's way of giving and not just taking. “I wanted to give back something back to people who aren't as lucky me! The project focused on training my friends how to bolt a sport route in the right way” said Schaar who in a previous trip to India realised not only that country's climbing potential is completely untapped, but also that climbing related tourism may be a way forward.

The sandstone Badami area was enriched with 35 new routes from 5c to 8a, while 15 new lines were established at the granite Ramanagaram crag, 45 km south of Bangalore.
