Tomas Franchini completes solo ascent of Lamo She in China
Communicating with China isn’t always easy and currently only a short text message has reached our newsroom, but this is more than enough confirm that Italy’s Tomas Franchini has made a solo ascent of Lamo She, a 6,070m mountain located in the Minya Konka region of China.
At the start of May, the mountain guide from Madonna di Campiglio traveled to China with Courmayeur mountaineer Pietro Picco to explore the isolated east face of the mountain.
Following tracks used by those searching for medicinal herbs, the two entered the valley and established base camp at about 3400 meters. The weather was almost always bad and provided almost constant fog and rain, nevertheless they managed to stash gear at 4400m and identify a possible ascent line. Picco then returned home while Franchini, probably with one bivouac, managed to solo up unexplored east face.
This Chinese success comes in the wake of his 2017 solo of the virgin West Face of Mount Edgar.
More information about the ascent will come after 7 June when the 30-year-old returns to Italy.
