The news came in just a few minutes ago: Walter Nones and Simon Kehrer have pitched their tent at circa 7000m on the Bazin glacier, right at the start of the descent via the Buhl route. The two mountaineers are currently pinned to their tents due to storms raging on the upper section of the mountain.

The two mountaineers spoke to Maurizio Gallo and Silvio Mondinelli who have now reached ABC on the Rakhiot Face and have stated that they are in good shape and have enough food and gas to wait for the weather to improve. Currently the mountain is not laiden with snow but, given the hour (almost 17.00 in Pakistan) we will have to wait until tomorrow for the two to continue their descent.

The satellite phone call by Nones and Kehrer arrived after and extenuating blackout all morning and gives a ray of hope not only to Maurizio Gallo and Silvio Mondinelli who are attempting to help the two by all possible means, but also to all those who all watching the events unfold from home.

Nones and Kehrer have been on the mountain for 8 days, 6 of which have been marked by the difficulty of the ascent and the anguish and psychological burden of the accident which cost the life of their leader Karl Unterkircher.  What the two have carried out since then to reach the Bazin glacier is of great comfort and infuses hope.

It's cleat that all are waiting for the ugly adventure to come to an end, and all are also waiting for that bit of luck which Nones and Kehrer have certainly not had - read a break in the bad weather which will enable the two to final escape from Nanga.

We have the utmost faith they'll do it!
