Mezzalama Trophy 2025 won by Axelle Mollaret & Emily Harrop and Michele Boscacci & Robert Antonioli

On Saturday 26 April the Italians Michele Boscacci and Robert Antonioli, raising their hands to the sky, not only won the 24th edition of the coveted Mezzalama Trophy, but also claimed the ISMF Long Distance World Championship. The winners finished in 4:29:19
In the women’s race, the French duo Axelle Mollaret Gachet and Emily Harrop dominated from the outset and won both the Trofeo Mezzalama and the ISMF Long Distance World Championship with a time of 5:23:25.
This year the legendary ski mountaineering competition held a dual significance, effectively ending the two-year cycle of La Grande Course, the circuit of the most technical and prestigious ski mountaineering competitions across the Alps and Pyrenees. In this special overall ranking, three French athletes topped the podium: William Bon Mardion and Xavier Gachet (tied in the men’s category) and Lorna Bonnel in the women’s.
The Trofeo Mezzalama, a historic skimo competition founded in 1933 by friends of Ottorino Mezzalama to honor his memory, saw the sport’s elite and the ski-mo racing community (320 teams from 18 nations) tackle a grueling 40km route across nearly 4,000 meters of elevation gain. The course summited Castore (4,228m) and Lyskamm’s “Naso” (4,150m) before the final descent down to the finish line.
The marathon began at 5:30 a.m. from Breuil-Cervinia and headed all the way to Gressoney-La-Trinité. Before the start, a minute of silence was observed in remembrance of Pope Francis, with attendees reflecting on his words: “Never forget the beauty of life, the beauty of sport.”
As forecast by Luca Mercalli, weather conditions were ideal. A stable weather window and abundant, compact snowpack gifted the 700+ participants a “Glacier Marathon” to cherish among their most beautiful memories.
At 10:00 a.m., Italy’s Michele Boscacci and Robert Antonioli crossed the finish line, victorious after a fierce battle with French rivals Xavier Gachet and William Bon Mardion, decided on the ascent up to the Lyskamm Nose. Gachet and Bon Mardion finished second after stopping the clock a mere 17 seconds later, at 4:29:36, while Matheo Jacquemoud and Samuel Equy placed third after 4:33:50
In the women's race, Alba De Silvestro and Giulia Compagnoni from Italy trailed by seven minutes to finish second at 5:30:20, while teammates Ilaria Veronese and Lisa Moreschini placed third.
