Meru at the Sundance Film Festival

This evening Meru will première at the Sundance Film Festival. The film documents the first ascent of Shark's Fin up the NW face of Meru (6310), Himalaya, carried out in 2011 by American alpinists Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk.

What do Robert Redford and American alpinists Jimmy Chin, Conrad Anker and Renan Ozturk have in common? This evening they’ll all be at the Sundance Film Festival, the most important independent film festival in the USA, to present their new film. While Redford’s inclusion comes as no surprise, having Meru selected was by no means to be taken for granted and that’s why it’s doubly fantastic to see a "mountain film” hit the silver screen and be shown to a larger audience.

The film documents the first ascent of a new climb up the huge pillar on the NW face of Meru (6310m) in India’s Garhwal Himalaya in 2011. Their epic climb was ultimately successful after 11 days in total and two failed attempts in the previous years and it understandably immediately earned them a nomination for the prestigious Piolet d'Or 2012. So now, after the red carpet in Courmayeur, the three will now tread another red carpet, this time at the Sundance Film Festival in Park city, Utah...

American alpinists Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk have successfully climbed a direct new route via the Shark's Fin on the NW face of Meru (6310m) in India's Garhwal Himalaya.
