Himalaya: Mondinelli, Enzio, Confortola and Gobbi summit Shisha Pangma

At 11.30 Tibetan time Silvio Mondinelli reached the Main summit of Shisha Panga, 8027m. This was Mondinell fourth attempt at the main summit, as on three previous occasions he reached the slightly lower Central summit. Mondinelli was not alone to summit Shisha Panga that day: the Italians Michele Enzio, Marco Confortola and Cristian Gobbi all summited, as did Julian della Gallizia from Spain together with his compatriot. Mondinelli, Enzio, Confortola ad Gobbi left Camp 3 at 7150m at 3.00 am and traversed along the difficult and dangerous slope which led directly to the main summit, avoiding therefore the climb up to Central Peak and the terrible traverse which has stopped so many Himalayan climbers in the past. This direct line obviously proved to be the right choice. Mondinelli, who has now climbed eleven 8000ers, descended to Camp 3 in just 3 hours, while the other members of the expedition are on their way down from the summit. Naturally the expedition will be deemed successful only when all members are safely back in Base Camp. We'll wait for them there, for the well-deserved celebration! photos: the expdition 2006 to Shisha Pangma. Top: the 4 Italians on the summit Right: Silvio Mondinelli on the summit of Shisha Pangma.
