Applications are open from 1 November to 31 December for the candidates of the “History Session” GORE-TEX® Experience Tour. This unique experience enables candidates to follow, together with the alpinist and GORE-TEX® athlete Edurne Pasaban, in the footsteps of Lucy Walker, one of alpinism's early pioneers who in 1864 managed to make the first ascent of the Balmhorn (3698m) in Switzerland's Bernese Alps with her father Frank Walker and her brother, and famous alpinist, Horace Walker. The adventure organised by GORE-TEX® aims to retrace the story of alpinism and experience the magic of the Alps that fascinated Lucy Walker so much that, in 1871, she went on to become the first woman to climb the Matterhorn. Unsurprisingly, she is a true reference point for all those whose driving passion is alpinism and the mountains in general.

Edurne Pasaban was born in Spain's Basque country in 1973. A qualified engineer, she is without a doubt one of the most famous alpinists and Himalayan climbers. After summiting Everest in 2001, Pasaban continued her quest for Himalayan peaks and, after climbing Shisha Pangma 9 years later, she completed her the world's fourteen 8000ers. Many consider her as the first woman to have completed the tour of the highest mountains in the world (albeit with the use of supplementary oxygen on Everest and Kangchenjunga) seeing that the Kangchenjunga ascent of South Korea's Oh Eun-Sun, who summited her 14th 8000er twenty days prior to Pasaban, is hotly disputed. Pasaban's Himalayan race will be remembered for her determination and her ability to struggle to the bitter end; in particular her ascent of K2 in 2004 and the difficult descent that resulted in the amputation of two toes. Despite this setback Pasaban never gave up and her journey across the mountains of this world continues today.

Two fortunate winners, selected via the candidatures on www.experience-tour.com will have the chance to take part in this fantastic 4-day adventure in the Bernese Alps, together with Edurne Pasaban and the team of pros, gear up with cutting-edge GORE-TEX® products.

The application process is extremely simple: fill out the application form on the site www.experience-tour.com, between 1 November and 31 December 2014. This will be followed by the voting process in January 2015 and the announcement of the winners, while the expedition will take place in June 2015.
