![]() On 29 June the West Face of Mont Blanc's Petit Dru suffered a new and important rockfall. The collapse occured above the previous 1997 rockfall. on that occasion over 1500 cubic meters fell valleywards, destroying classic alpine routes such as Thomas Gross, Destivelle and, above all, some pitches of the Bonatti Pillar. First ascended in 1955 solo, this is widely considered one of the most famous alpine routes in the world. Until details emerge of the extent of the damage, climbers are advised to steer clear of the wall. ![]() Photo: The Dru on 30/06 after the rockfall.
