Just the other day we reported - in our news about the Mallory route down Aiguille du Midi - about extreme ski descents being carried out now, at the start of the winter season, which were previously thought impossible at this time of year. Well, on Friday 23 November French mountain guide Vivian Bruchez and Spain's Kilian Jornet Burgada took things a step further by making the first ski descent of the awesome Migot Spur off Aiguille de Chardonnet 3824m in the Mont-Blanc massif.

While the North face of Chardonnet was first skied back in 1977 by Frenchmen Jean Marc Boivin and Yves Détry, as Chamonix-born Bruchez explained to Planetmountain "the Migot Spur is totally different, it's a new line. I've often passed below it with my clients and in the past the serac was too big to ski it, there was simply no way, but now with the climate change and the warming of the planet and the retreating glacier, there is a line!" Bruchez and Jornet carried out the outstanding descent without needing any abseils. To find out more check out Vivian Bruchez on Facebook and the excellent photos by Seb Montaz.
