Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner named Explorer of the Year by national geographic Yesterday the national geographic Society awarded the title Explorer of the Year to Austrian alpinist Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner. The late Swiss oceanographer Jacques Piccard was awarded the Hubbard Medal.
