"The Call of the Mountains!" Alpinism exhibition in Austria

Salzburg hosts a year-long exhibition to celebrate the mountain and all its facets.
An exhibition entitled 'Der Berg ruft!', or "The Call of the Mountains!" will be held in Salzburg from April 2000 to November 2001.

It aims "to provide an overview of Alpinism, from exploration of the local Alps, to the conquest of the world's highest peaks."

This large scale event has been organised by the Salzburger Land, and will include special guests such as, amongst others, Sir Chris Bonington, Kurt Diemberger, Sir Edmund Hillary, the Huber brothers and Reinhold Messner

In conjunction with the grand opening, a two-day symposium will examine the influences of 20th-century alpinism on various mountain regions.

Three regions will be compared: the Mt.Everest/Khumbu region in the Himalaya, Mt. Kenya in East Africa, and the Großglockner/Hohe Tauern National Park region in Austria.
