There are over 250 icefalls in the valleys of'Aup Martin, Ailefroide, Chambran, Fournel and Freissinières and a free shuttle service has been organised to ferry the climbers to and from the icefalls during the five day meet.

As has become customary, the French Montagnes Magazine will use the occasion to award the prestigious
Piolet d'Or to the most significant ascent of the year. This is the tenth anniversary of what is widely regarded one of the most important awards for alpine achievements. All candidates will be present at the meet and the ceremony will take place on Saturday 13th January. In addition the French Alpine Club (CAF) will award the "Bourse Expé Jeunes" to the best youth project.
