Saas Fee 21-22 January 2004. The Austrian Harry Berger and Petra Muller from Switzerland won the World Championship Ice Difficulty, while the Speed event was won by Evgeny Kryvosheytsev from the Ukraine and Natalia Koulikova from Russia Anna Torretta, fifth in Saas Fee, sent us this brief comeptition report: "I finished with a circus-like final, with just one ice axe, just missing the highpoint reached by Petra Muller. Ines Papert was extremely nervous and after 3 years of total dominion committed (finally?!) an error and fell. And Petra Mueller won the competition. I slipped into 5th place, after a provisional first in the Open and 2nd in the Semifinal. Stephanie Maureau from France placed third. In the men's event a monstrous reach excluded many, the Anthematten brothers climbed around it, Harry won with great class, Simon made a few mistakes and finished 2nd. Albert Leichtfried placed third. Good routes, fun to climb, on the usual structure in the underground parking lot in Saas Fee: this is the story of the World Championship Ice Difficulty ..." All eyes are now on the World Championship Ice Boulder in Valle di Daone (26-29 January). All the best in the world will be there, including some, like Bubu Bole, who did not take part in Saas Fee. We're ready for a great battle and spectacle.
