Olga Bibik wins the World Cup Boulder in Lecco 2003
The Russian Olga Bibik wins in Lecco ahead of Ioulia Abramtchouk (RUS) and Myriam Motteau (FRA).
Lecco, Thursday 25 June 2003 Last night's women's Final ended with a surprise winner: the Russian Olga Bibik. She completely dominated the competition, topping out on four of the six boulder problems, while second placed Ioulia Abramtchouk managed only two, as did Myriam Motteau, who placed third. Bibik's performance was outstanding: coming from a provisional 10th, she topped out on boulders 3, 4 and 5 first go to ensure a deserved victory after her second place in Yekaterinburg and fourth in Fiera di Primiero. Sandrine Levet's superiority in the qualification round (6 boulders in just 7 attempts speaks for itself) transformed and, although she fought to the bitter end, had to contend with 9th place. Lisa Rands and Giulia Giammarco, provisional second and third, seemed out of power too, slipping to fifth and seventh respectivley. The women Final was intense, uncertain, full of sudden changes and, for the crowd that gathered in Lecco, simply spectacular. Today's men's event should prove something...
