Meyer and Danion win Bouldering World Cup stage in Fiera di Primiero.
On 17/06 Jerome Meyer and Juliette Danion from France won the fifth stage of the Bouldering World Cup2006 in Fiera di Primiero (TN).
Northern Italy's Fiera di Primiero hosted the fifth round of the UIAA Bouldering World Cup last weekend. The men's event came down to the wire with Frenchman Jerome Meyer unexpectedly beating, on the very last problem, a ferocious Kilian Fischhuber who, up until that point, had led the competition. The women's final was carried out without Olga Bibik who, just like in Grindelwald, failed to qualify for the last six and finished ninth overall. Juliette Danion from France capitalised on this mistake and won not only the competition but also leapfrogged into provisional first place in the women's ranking... 1 point ahead of Bibik. The men's podium was comprised of the above mentioned Meyer and Fischhuber, while "terminator" Tomas Mrázek finished third for the second time this season - all the more impressive if you consider that his speciality is Lead not Bouldering. The same holds true for Frenchman Gérome Pouvreau: the former Lead World Champion placed fourth in Fiera and consolidated his third place in the provisional ranking. teammate Stephane Julien placed fifth, while Michele Camminati ignited the crowd to place fifth in this first world cup final on home turf. Second place in the women's event went to Anna Stöhr from Austria who, after victory in Grindelwald, confirmed her world class and currently enjoys provisional third in the overall ranking. Yulia Abramchuk placed third in Fiera and her 5th place overall ranking might well have been better had she not missed out on the competitions in Birmingham and Rovereto. Emilie Abgrall from France placed fourth, ahead of the eclectic Chloé Graftiaux from Belgium who is doing well in both Bouldering and Lead. Audrey Seguy from the States placed a surprising, but not too surprising, sixth. Illustrious athletes failed to qualify for the final, and this just goes to show how difficult it is to find the right solutions to bouldering's paradise: Bibik (9th), Mélanie Son (7th) da Natalija Gros (8th) Helena Lipenska (10th), Martina Cufar (11th ex aequo with Sabine Bache, Maja Vidmar (13th). Angela Eiter, the undisputed queen of Lead, failed this time round to surprise all and finished 24th In the men's event Jerome Meyer is now well on his way to his third World Cup title, while the women's is wide open. The circuit rushes on to Hall, Austria, this weekend, and soon we'll know more. The athletes will then travel to Russia's Yekaterinburg to compete in the European Championships... We hope to see plenty of fantastic problems, surprises and, hopefully, smiles galore!! Results men Fiera di Primiero 1. JJérôme Meyer FRA 2. Kilian Fischhuber AUT 3. Tomasz Mrazek CZE 4.
