Ice World Cup 2000, Courchevel - Program
The second stage in this year's Ice World Cup will take place in Courchevel from the 23 - 25 January.
After the first event in Pitztal, Austria, the Frenchman François Lombard and the Russian Irina Ryzhenkova lead the provisional Ice World Cup Ranking with 100 points each. The focus nowshifts to Courchevel, France, where the second stage will be held from the 23 - 25 January.
Courchevel has hosted ice climbing competitions for the last 10 years, thus becoming a well established fixture in the competition calendar. A 30m tower will be constructed especially for the event and significant prize money will be awarded to the winners.
It will be interesting to see how the likes of Moulin, Bole, Perrier, Profit etc will react to outcome of the first event in Pilztal, where many favourites failed to pass the Open. After his surprise victory last weekend all eyes will surely be on the young François Lombard, the current leader in the World Rankings. Climbing on home ground, will the Frenchman be able to repeat his winning performance? Will there be another head-to-head with the Canadian Will Gadd?
Thoughts like these render this first Ice World Cup interesting, fought over and full of surprises.
After Courchevel the Ice World Cup circuit moves to Cortina d'Ampezzo (27-30 January) with the only Ice Boulder this year, then to Saas Fee in Switzerland (11-13 February), then to Kirov in Russia (3-5 March) and finally Are in Sweden (10-12 March).
