Festiglace The North Face of Quebec, results
Anna Torretta and Stephane Husson win the 6th Festiglace 20003 The North Face of Quebec in Canada
The sixth edition of the Festiglace The North Face of Quebec took place in Canada at the end of February. Unlike most other ice climbing competitions, this event takes place outdoors on existing routes. 26 athletes from 8 countries took part, including the Italian Anna Torretta, who won the women's event and sent us the following report: "The Festiglace has now celebrated its sixth edition and the competition, by invitation only, is designed to allow the best athletes in the world to compete against the best in Quebec. 20 men and 6 women are invited, and the comp uses the World Cup rules. The male athletes have 20 minutes to complete the routes, while the women have 25. The routes are 30-35 meters long. Pont Rouge is a 100m wide canyon and has become a reference point for mixed climbing in the east of Canada. It's magic, with vertical and overhanging walls with hanging drips. A river runs along the valley bottom and since it's frozen, one can walk across it. To get to the canyon you walk down 205 wooden steps - we're in Quebec! I won the women's event, topping out in 9 min. 57 sec, followed by Kirten Buchmann, who topped out in 14 min. 8 sec. Kurt Astner topped out in 8 minutes to place third, and was beaten by Erwan Lelann and an extremely fast Stéphane Husson. Yann Bonneville, the third Team Grivel member, topped out in 13 min. and 14 sec." Anna Torretta Top right: Anna Torretta in action. Top: Pont Rouge, Festiglace The North Face of Quebec (ph arch. A.
