Chamonix,World Cup Difficulty 2001 and Boulder
The World Cup Difficulty 2001 gets underway in Chamonix as does the second stage of the World Cup Boulder
The World Cup Difficulty 2001 gets underway in Chamonix today. Finally the long awaited competition circuit restarts, and after a summer pause continues in Lecco in September to finish in Courmayeur on 14 December. The season will be a long one therefore, demanding excellence and constancy, amply demonstrated last year by the overall winners Liv Sansoz and Yuji Hirayama. Apart from the fact that the current title holder is the great absentee of this stage, the mens field remains unchanged. French hopes will rest on young Alexandre Chabot, second overall last year, while Italys fortunes rest in the hands of Cristian Brenna third overall, and Dino Lagni, last years winner at Chamonix. The womens field sees no great change either, but from an Italian point of view this year could prove extremely fruitful, as Jenni Lavarda has recently proven to be on excellent form by becoming Youth World Champion at Imst. The second stage of the World Cup Boulder is also being held at Chamonix this weekend. France, after having dedicated so much to this speciality, obviously hopes for a champion and all eyes will therefore be on Jérôme Meyer, winner at Gap a fortnight ago. And all eyes will also be on the likes of Pedro Pons and Christian Core, who hope to remedy last competitions false start. The competition program continues to be intense with next weeks third stage of the Boulder World Cup in Munich and the international Master at Serre Chevalier. Good luck to all involved!
