Bouldering World Cup: French victory in Russia
The second round of the Bouldering Worldcup 2005 took place in Moscow on 18-20 April and was won by Sandrine Levet and Jérôme Meyer.
The second round of the Bouldering World Cup 2005 took place in Moscow last weekend. The women's event was won, to no surprise whatsoever, by Sandrine Levet, while teammate Jérôme Meyer returned home with men's victory in his pocket. In an extremely compressed final, Meyer managed to top out on 2 boulders only, in 4 tries. Ex-world champion Christian Core from Italy, back to competitions after a sabatical year, sent the same two problems, but needed 2 attempts more and finished second. The two were separated by a hairs breadth, which is what currently separates them in the provisional WC ranking, but the 2005 season has only just begun and Kilian Fischhuber, who placed third in Moscow, knows this only too well. Salavat Rakhmetov placed 4th, Ludovic Laurence 5th, Gaidioz, Kazbekov, Dulac, Würth, Samyn, Müller, Sharafutdinov 7th to 12th respectively and all with just one top in the final, apart from Müller and Sharafutdinov, who simply failed to lift off. As mentioned above, the women's event was dominated once again by Sandrine Levet. Hers was a Russian walk-over, for closest rival Olga Bibik placed "only" 10th. Levet topped out on 5 boulders, second placed Anna Stöhr from Austria managed 4, while almost all the remaining finalists sent 3 problems, including 3rd placed Emilie Abgrall. The Bouldering World Cup now takes a short break, but returns with Fiera di Primiero in mid June, before the World Championship in Munich in July.
