Austrian ice climbing competitions
The Austrian Ice Climbing Championship and 4th International Carinthian and East Tyrolean Championship took place in Kotschach at the start of January.
With ice climbing competitions few and far between this winter, attention shifted away from discussions about the defunct Ice World Cup to the reality of the 4th International Carinthian and East Tyrolean Championship. The event, held in Kotschach on 10-11 January, took place on the same ice structure used a week earlier for the Austrian Championships. Marco Müller from Switzerland won the Austrian Championships, ahead of Stefan Bauhofer and Markus Bendler, while Claudia Colussi from italy dominated the women's event, winning both the Austrian Championship and the regional Carinthian and East Tyrolean Championship. Attention now shifts to the World Championship in Saas Fee at the end of January, the Slovenian Championships in Solcava at the start of February, and an interesting Duathlon comprised on ski mountaineering and ice climbing in Kotschach on 1 February.
