The women's competition of the Ice Climbing World Cup 2015 presented by The North Face proved thrilling as four athletes battled it out for first place: Klingler, Gallyamova and the two Koreans Shin and Song. Angelika Rainer had made a mistake in the Semis and had consequently failed to qualify for the finals. Klingler climbed magnificently to produce the only top in the entire competition, and her first career victory netted her second place overall, behind Angelika Rainer who thanks to the points gained in the previous competitions has now won her second World Cup. This seals a great season during which she also placed second at the World Championships at Rabenstein in the Passeiertal.

The men's competition proved tough and Proshchenko managed to beat Maxim Tomilov and Nikolai Kuzovlev, after setting off a second time since he broke a hold on his first run. This is Proshchenko’s first-ever competition victory and, interestingly, his first competition this season.

Kirov also hosted the Speed climbing World Championship, won by veteran Alexey Vagin, born in 1972, who netted a historic victory in front of his home crowd. The women’s event was won by 19-year-old Ekaterina Koshcheeva won the Juniors world Championship in January.
