The last time we spoke about Magnus Midtbø was in October 2021, when the Norwegian became the first climber to surpass the 1 million subscriber mark on his Youtube channel. Since then the growth of his channel seems to have increased exponentially, so much so that 2 years down the line he has now hit the 2 million mark. A number which, put simply, defies comprehension but serves to underline once again how much climbing has grown over the last 30 years.

Midtbø is one of only a handful of people to have redpointed 9a+ and onsighted 8c+. After retiring from climbing competitions in 2017, the 11-times Norwegian champion started concentrating more seriously on running his own climbing walls and updating the YouTube channel he had started in 2011. To date his videos have been viewed a staggering 335,629,717 times.

While Midtbø's growth has doubled, in the same timeframe other channels have increased at a slightly slower pace. EpicTV has gone from 388,000 subscribers to 403,000, and Adam Ondra has leapt into second place from 316,000 to 515,000. Other channels that consistently produce quality content are Geekclimber (305,000), Wide Boyz by Tom Randall and Pete Whittaker, (215,000), Eric Karlsson (162,000), Lattice Training (143,000), Mellow Climbing (123,000), Emil Abrahamsson (119,000), Anna Hazelnutt (112,000), Hannah Morris Bouldering (98,400), Stefano Ghisolfi (92,000), Alexander Megos (65,500), Chris Sharma (53,000), Jakob Schubert (48,000), Will Bosi (26,900). With the demand for video content soaring, it'll be fascinating to see how all these channels fare in the next few years. One thing is certain though: keeping up with Midtbø is impossible.
