Luca Zardini continues to impress; on Sunday the 41-year-old from Cortina made the first ascent of Il Falco 8c + at Il Laboratorio at Laggio di Cadore in the Italian Dolomites. The route is an extension to Space, was bolted by local climber Christian Casanova and climbs a further 25m up spectacular rock. Il Falco gets the same 8c+ grade as the nearby Scarspace, freed by Zardini in 2012.
To free the route, Zardini needed "time, patience, perseverance and anger. But just like the flight of a "falcon", the experience was wonderful....!". On his blog Zardini explained "Patience due to having to wait for almost a year for the route to come into condition after such a rainy autumn and snowy winter; perseverance to keep motivated and want to continue trying the line and work out the right moves in the difficult upper section; anger to return to top form to send this super physical 50 metres. The moves are both unique and spectacular and make it another gem."
