Jakob Schubert flashes Never Ending Story 8B+ at Magic Wood in Switzerland
Had only the weather been better and all boulders bone dry, who knows what Jakob Schubert would have got to. The 29-year-old Austrian climber has just spent two days climbing at Magic Wood in Switzerland and amassed a ticklist that is important to say the least. He sent then 8B+ New Base Line and Practice of the Wild, the 8A+ One Summer in Paradise and Riders on the Storm, and flashed the 8A’s Voigas, Octopussy and Jack's Broken Heart.
More importantly, at the end of his second day Schubert managed to flash the 8B+ The Never Ending Story. This is the forest’s most classic top-end boulders, climbed straight off by the Austrian.
8B+ boulder flash has already been achieved in the past, notably byinclude Daniel Woods (Entlinge, Murgtal, Switzerland, 2011) Adam Ondra (Jade, Rocky Mountain National Park, 2015), Jimmy Webb (The Globalist, Finland, 2016) and Ned Feehally (Trust Issues, Rocklands, South Africa) and by Schubert himself who in 2018 flashed Catalan Fitness Witnesses at Cova de Ocell in Spain. But Never Ending Story is a landmark boulder problem, tried and test by many of the world’s best. Sending this block in a matter of seconds was truly magical.
