Close, but not close enough. With the Nose surprisingly free of other climbing parties, Hans Florine teamed up Alex Honnold this afternoon to attempt to break the speed record but after racing up the iconic 900m the duo topped out 45 seconds slower than Dean Potter and Sean Leary who in November 2010 had stopped the clock at 2:36:45.

According to climbing.com this was the duo's third vertical race this autumn which resulted in times of 4:37, 3:16 and now 2:37. Plans are for another attempt soon but this may be foiled by a low pressure system working its way to the valley in the next couple of days.
