If it’s true that dreaming is an act of pure imagination, that attests to man’s creativity, then it’s also true that it’s extremely difficult to realize those dreams that stem lightly from the imagination. This is the case for most of us, but not so for Italian climber Federica Mingolla who after having sent her first granite 8b last April, Legittima Visione in Valle dell’Orco, has now added to her already superb curriculum one of the most sought-after extreme rock climbs in the Mont Blanc massif.

On the 1st of July Mingolla repeated the beautiful Digital Crack up the smooth granite located at 3800 meters above sea level on the SE Face of the Grand Gendarme, on the incredible Arête des Cosmiques. The face, slightly overhanging and clearly visible from the Aiguille du Midi cable car, that was climbed free for the first time by the Frenchmen Thierry Renault and Alain Ghersen.

We’re bound to hear more in due course about the days Mingolla spent with Adriano Trombetta, Lorenzo Pernigotti and Federico Ravassard on the "roof of Europe", as well as more about other quick raids at altitude in the future. Mingolla, evidently, has the mountains in her DNA.
