Emily Harrington climbing Golden Gate in 2015 on El Capitan, Yosemite
Last spring American climber Emily Harrington enjoyed what she describes as "one of the proudest achievements in my climbing career", namely a repeat of Golden Gate on El Capitan in Yosemite. The route, first freed in 2000 by Alexander Huber and his brother Thomas Huber, took Harrington 6 days, a superb achievement especially if you bear in mind that 3 years ago she was failing on 5.9 cracks! Having said that Harrington’s perseverance and eventual success comes as no surprise as she literally feeds off challenges: in 2005 she won silver in the Lead World Championship in Munich, while in 2012 she summited Everest.
