Dolorock Climbing Festival 2019 final countdown

The countdown has begun for Dolorock 2019! The climbing festival in the Italian Dolomites will take place this weekend in Toblach and the Höhlensteintal, Val di Landro in Italian, and for the seventh year running the beautiful Tre Cime di Lavaredo will act as the backdrop to this exciting climber's meet.

The event kicks off officially on Friday at 9:00 pm, at the Nord Arena Toblach climbing gym where the drive-in cinema will be set, screening the film Dirtbag: the legend of Fred Beckey. This US climbing legend shunned a full-time job in favour or rock climbing and dedicated his life totally to the mountains. In perfect US style, the climbing club "Gamatzn" which organises the festival will provide drinks, hot dogs and popcorn…

Registration can be completed on Friday night so that everything is set for climbing early on Saturday morning up in Val di Landro. The program includes a briefing at 9:30 am at the Lago di Landro restaurant and after a strong coffee the Redpoint Fight begins. Onsight, flash, redpoint, whatever, climbing until 5.00 pm and plenty of fun are on the agenda.

After this its time to return to Dobbiaco where, at the Dolorock Arena close to the Grand Hotel, the the awards ceremony takes place followed by the legendary party with Pink Armada, a female band of five rockers!

Sunday morning will get off to a soft start: the climbers brunch from 8:30 am to 11:00 am at the Dolorock tent and Yoga for climbers that will now start at 9:30 am. Then it’s time for climbing once again, when and as much as you want.

Latest updates: online registration is now closed but there are still some places available, and currently the organisers are up in the valley deciding which cliffs are suitable this year. The decision will be taken at the very last moment and the weather forecasts are improving, so the Dolorock up in Höhlensteintal will certainly hold some pleasant surprises in store!

Dolorock Climbing Festival 
Organised since 2013 by Gamatzn, the South Tyrolean climbing club that brings together climbers and mountaineers of Val Pusteria, Dolorock aims to use climbing to overcome linguistic, cultural and geographical barriers. The meeting is designed welcome diversity, promote tolerance and nurture critical discussions on issues related to climbing and mountaineering.
