Der Grantler, new climb in Valle Cochamo, Chile

Better late than never: in February 2011 the German climbers Frank Kretschmann and Mario Gliemann established Der Grantler (230m, 6b) up Cerro Trinidad Sur in the "Yosemite of Chile", the Cochamo Valley.

The route takes a 230m line to the left of "Pegadito en la pared" and shares the first belay. "Although the two climbs run fairly close" explained Kretschmann "Der Grantler is much more than just a variation. The six pitches range from alpine sport climbing (pitch 1) to steep face climbing (pitches 3 and 5) to excellent crack climbing (pitches 4 and 6), all in the region of 6a/6b. Furthermore, all belays are equipped with stainless steel bolts."

Kretschmann underlined"due to this variety of different climbing styles, the perfect rock quality and its moderate difficulties, Der Grantler can already be considered a modern Cochamo Valley classic." All route information can be found at the Refugo Cochamo, in the meantime here's a short video about the route.
