Caroline Sinno at Fontainebleau climbs her first 8B, L'insoutenable Légèreté de l'Autre
34-year-old Caroline Sinno has climbed her first 8B boulder problem, L’insoutable légèreté de l’autre in Fontainebleau on the outskirts of Paris. Featuring a thin crack, tiny crimps and then a difficult mantle exit, this lefthand variation to the classic Insoutenable Légéreté de l’Être at Franchard Isatis was established by Sébastien Frigault in 2009. Since then several holds have broken prompting some to wonder if the bloc might be harder than before, nevertheless the grade has remained steady at 8B.
Sinno spent about two months working the moves prior to the send last week. She comprehensibly commented: "Beware of the holds on the mantle and the mid-section when you are trying it, some of them are very fragile!"
It’s worth noting that female 8B in the forest is few and far between. Catherine Miquel archived this grade in 2002 on Trafic, but this is a traverse, while Mélissa Le Nevé made headline news in 2017 with her ascent of Mécanique élémentaire which some now believe to be a full grade easier.
Originally from Paris, Sinno moved to Fontainebleau only recently in order to enjoy the forest as much as possible. Previously she sent three 8B traverses, including Trafic. With more time on her hands now, there may well be more in store in the future.
