Tamara Lunger remembers Sergi Mingote

The thoughts of Tamara Lunger, published yesterday on Facebook, in memory of Sergi Mingote, the Catalan mountaineer who lost his life on Saturday 16 January 2021 while descending from Camp 1 on K2. The South Tyrolean mountaineer is currently attempting the second highest mountain in the world and, in addition to climbing with the Catalan, together with other climbers she attempted to rescue him and stayed with him after his tragic fall.

These are really bad days here! Sad and heavy! At least we are and are all close and able to support each other in this grief for Sergi. We did everything we could, but unfortunately there was just no hope. At least we were close to him.

This video makes me cry so much. Not only all of us have lost a great and strong mountaineer, but I had found and so soon lost a wonderful friend, with a big heart so positive, happy and full of love for the mountains, others and life. I can only be grateful to have met him on my path!

Thank you Sergi! For our dances even at camp 1, for our laughter, for your nivea for men! I pray for your family in hopes that knowing you are happy in these mountains will somehow ease their pain. Who knows where this adventure will take us, but we know for sure you will be with us!

R.I.P. and much LOVE❤️

I am happy with the success from the Nepalese team of Nims Dai and Mingma G, they did well and I congratulate all of them for this immense feat. They deserve to make history with a summit of their own, not just alongside supporting others, but leading the way.

Unfortunately at this moment I struggle to feel happiness, my heart is filled with sorrow for Sergi.
