Stephan Siegrist, Thomas Senf add mixed climb to Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland
Switzerland's majestic Lauterbrunnen valley is currently locked in full winter mode, prompting Stephan Siegrist and Thomas Senf to establish a new ice and mixed climb in this picturesque corner of the Bernese Oberland. The new climb, called Silverbacks on Ice and established on 28 January 2022, is located below the village of Isenfluh and directly left of Isenhert (D. Abegglen, L. Frutiger 12/01/2021).
Siegrist explained "The first pitches had hardly any ice during our ascent. Accordingly, the first full 60 meters provided mixed climbing on ice, grass and rock; given these conditions, we recommended a set of Totems. The second pitch starts with 10 meters of ice and then transitioned to pure rock before continuing on the icicle to provide a full 55m of climbing. The third pitch started up 30 meters of thin but wide ice before moving through a narrow ice couloir. 55 meters."
