Simon Gietl: life, alpinism and accepting a challenge
The video portrait of South Tyrolean alpinist Simon Gietl.

Simon Gietl with his son Iano
"When I'm 60 or 70, I'm certain I'll have more fun looking through my book of adventures than my savings book." It's this desire to search for something new that lies at the heart of Simon Gietl's constant thirst for adventure. The talented alpinist from Italy's South Tyrol also adds that, for him, true happiness is at home with his young family, and that he's often afraid and that it's important therefore to listen to that "gut feeling", the instinct that is so fundamental when taking to the mountains. And Gietl has been out and about plenty of times, establishing and repeating routes in the Dolomites, Greenland, the Himalaya and Patagonia. Here's a video portrait to be savoured, with images of him and Patrick Seiwald on their route Das Orakel on the North Face of Lagazuoi as a precious backdrop.
