Winter in Scotland continues to be produce the right conditions and last Monday Nick Bullock, Pete Benson and Guy Robertson produced a major addition to the Giant’s Wall on Beinn Bhàn close to Applecross.
The trio climbed 4 new pitches and then joined the infamous The Godfather VIII,8 which they then followed for a final two pitches. They needed a total of 11 hours to climb the steep and bold wall and have called their latest creation Godzilla IX/8.
The new line is in effect a direct start to Martin Moran and Paul Tattersall's 2002 testpiece, widely considered one of the most revered routes in the region. As such Godzilla, with its individual technical pitch grades of 8,8,8,7,8,8, marks another step forward in the Northern Highlands and it will no doubt be interesting to see what the face and this remaining winter hold in store.
