Aiguille Verte, les Droites, les Courtes and many more peaks in the Mont Blanc massif can be made out clearly in background, but for once the protagonist is the Glacier d’Argentière high above Chamonix. Filmed only last week by French director Yannick Boissenot, this reel shows the sheer, intricate beauty and immense power of this extraordinary tongue of ice. And also depicts its worrying fragility, as Boissenot himself points out: "What surprised me is the speed at which the glacier disappears every year… the footage is nice, but the reality behind these images is not as pleasant."
