On Saturday 1 April Cristina Gravina (ex Downhill World Cup athlete and ski instructor in Corvara) and Alessandra Pescosta (ex Snowboard/Freestyle World Cup athlete and snowboard instructor in Corvara) carried out the first telemark and snowboard descent of Marmolada's Vallone d'Antermoia. According to the local guidebook “Le nevi delle Dolomiti (by M. Gallo, ed Cierre, '93) this descent was first skied by Tone Valeruz. The line is seldom repeated as it leaves practically no room for errors. Cristina Gravina and Alessandra Pescosta descended without problems late in the morning on "excellent firn". Pescosta had to "climb" a few meters on the long traverse which connects the gully proper with the lower section of the descent. Pescosta had warmed up two days earlier by descending the North Gulley (50°) of Forcella Staunies located in the Cristallo group. The Vallone d'Antermoia descent reaches 45° and the lower section comes right up close to the immense limestone walls where even the slightest error is simlply out of the question. Both Alessandra Pescosta and Cristina Gravina are members of the association "Dolomites Freeriders Alta Badia."
