Ciaspolada 2003
The classic Ciaspolada snowshoe race celebrates its 30 anniversary and changes course
On January 5 the highly successful snowshoe race in Italy's Val di Non will celebrate its 30th anniversary. The international Ciaspolada, which started out with just 18 competitors in 1973, now attracts over 6000 athletes. The 7km course has been modified this year and follows the valley floor from Romeno to Fondo. Artificial snow making machines have been installed to guarantee perfect course conditions.Just like last year's edition, the Ciaspolada is part of the European Cup, which takes place in Andorra, Thones (France) and Pragelato. Uunfortunately, attempts at making snowshoe races a demonstrative event in the Turin Winter Olympics 2006 have failed. by Aldo Frezza |
