Spanish skyrunning ultrarunner Kilian Jornet Burgada has been named the 2014 National Geographic People’s Choice Adventurer of the Year.

Austrian Felix Baumgartner was awarded the National Geographic Adventurer of the Year for his historic free fall from space on 14 October 2012.

18/01/2012. Mario Merelli died this morning at 8:00am while climbing up Pizzo Redorta (Val Seriana, Bergamo, Italy). Merelli was one of the most famous Italian alpinists and Himalayan mountaineers and one of the driving forces of the Bergamo mountaineering scene.

At 18:18 local time Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner from Austria reached the summit of K2. In doing so she has become the first woman in the world to climb all fourteen 8000m peaks without the use of supplementary oxygen.

A commission called upon by the Korean Alpine Federation has declared Miss Oh Eun-Sun's Kangchenjunga ascent as improbable, thus raising doubts as to whether the Korean was the first woman to have climbed all fourteen 8000m peaks.

On 23 May Silvio Mondinelli, Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, Abele Blanc, Michele Enzio and Marco Camandona reached the summit of Everest from Tibet. On 22 May Simone Moro reached the summit, once again with the use of supplementary oxygen.

On 17 May edurne pasaban from Spain reached the summit of Shisha Pangma, completing her tour of the 14 highest mountains in the world. She summited along with Italian Mario Panzeri (11th 8000er).
