Ferrino presents 'Transcardus, a BalkanSki Story'
So near and so far... the peaks of the Balkans are only a few hundred kilometres from the Alps, but they are the heart of a human and natural reality that is very different from that of the Alps, a place dotted with small villages where, alongside the minarets of Muslim mosques, rise the bell towers of Catholic churches and the domes of Orthodox ones, and where Europe takes on the colours and flavours of the East.
Enrico Mosetti, Alpine Guide, Ferrino ambassador and passionate ski-mountaineer, fleeing from the more classic and now overcrowded destinations of the Alps, has long spent his winters among these peaks, where, in the coldest season, it is rare to encounter human traces and the only footprints left on the snow are those of bears and wolves, elusive inhabitants of these mountains.
After many years of going there, last winter, Enrico decided to turn a long cherished dream into reality: to make the first ski crossing of the Sharr or Scardus massif, on the border between Kosovo and Macedonia. With him are skier, photographer and filmmaker Elisa Bessega, snowboarder Matteo Sarto and Lorenzo Barutta, who also loves downhill skiing and is an expert filmmaker.
Ferrino wanted to be at their side, providing its best mountain equipment (including the ultralight backpacks of the Instinct line and the brand new Extreme 2 ultralight high altitude tent, tested in a wind tunnel) and supporting the production of the film dedicated to the crossing.
In the course of a week of ascents made challenging by the capricious Balkan weather, thrilling descents, bivouacs under the snow and stars, and exciting encounters with the people who live in the valleys at the foot of the Scardus, the group managed to complete the feat and complete the filming of ‘Transcardus’, the documentary directed by Elisa Bessega, which recounts this great little adventure.
The work will have its world premiere on Sunday, October 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the Feltrinelli Foundation in Via Pasubio, as part of the Milan Mountain Festival 2024 events, of which Ferrino is a partner. On Friday, Nov. 22, at 8:30 p.m., the film will also be screened in Turin, at the Cineteatro Baretti theater. On December 3rd, Transcardus will stop at the Cinema Visionario in Udine for a screening as part of the 'High Altitude Films' series
“We are proud to have contributed to the creation of this original crossing and the beautiful film that bears witness to it,” comments Anna Ferrino CEO of Ferrino. “It was a way for us to reaffirm our passion and commitment to promoting the practice and culture of outdoor in its most beautiful form: that of discovery and exploration, which, even today, with a little courage, creativity and the ability to look at things from a different point of view, it is possible to discover even in places not too far from home and independently, that is, with just a backpack, tent and sleeping bag and skis, to explore even in winter remote and wonderful places".

It was 1870 and Cesare Ferrino began production of the fabric waterproofing formula that he had discovered, tested and perfected over time, on an industrial scale. It was a winning idea. Ferrino's story began here.
