Four days of sun, rock, sea and fun. Once again the San Vito Climbing Festival proved to be highly exciting for climbers and non-climbers alike. In fact, while the main focus is on rock climbing, as of last year the Festival has opened its arms to embrace other outdoor sports such as mountain biking kayaking and trail running.

Despite the shift in season from October to May 500 people registered for the festival and over a thousand climbers took part. By making the most of the town's characteristic central square, the quality of side-events has increased considerably. Famous names were drawn to the event such as Silvio Reffo, Stefano Ghisolfi, Neil Gresham, Dalia Ojeda, Barbara Raudner, Daniel Jung and the Mago, Manolo and the evening lectures with them as guest proved inspirational. Although Sicily's first 9a, Climb for Life freed by Adam Ondra, wasn't repeated due to unfavorable conditions, the damp rock certainly did not stop the visiting climbers from putting on a great show no the beautiful and difficult routes.

One of the main novelties this year was the Climbing House run by Daniele and Ivan, a reference point for all climbers and outdoor enthusiasts as well as the focal point for the pre-evening entertainment. A place such as this one was needed at San Vito since this has, over the years, become one of the leading European holiday destinations for sport climbing. The Climbing House is also the reference point for co-ordinating new routing activity and the result is a significant increase in the quality and quantity of crags and routes on offer at San Vito.

The next appointment with San Vito lo Capo is in October with four weekends dedicated to trail running. The climbing festival is scheduled for next year and work is already underway to create something even more unique.
