"Salathe" wins at "Vila de Torelló"
The 19th International Festival of Mountain Films "Vila de Torelló" came to a close last Saturday with the Grand Prize being awarded to 'Salathe'.
The 19th International Festival of Mountain Films "Vila de Torelló" came to a close last Saturday with the Grand Prize being awarded to 'Salathe', Richard Heaps 49 minute film that documents Neil Bentley and Richard Heaps dream to climb one of El Capitans mythical routes free. 'Salathe' had already won at Kendal in 2000 as Best Rock Climbing Film. The prize for Best Film about the Environment went to 'Impression of Tirol' by Georg Riha, while Claude Delieutrazs 'Mort au barbu ou le crash du gypaete' won the Boreal Prize. 'Timeless' by Domique Pierre about the freerider Domique Pierre was awarded best Mountain Sports Film, while 'La grande cordé, Gilles Chappaz documentary of Patrick Berhaults 'coast to coast' across the Alps, won Best Mountain Film. Best Photography was awarded to the Dutch 'Amin Brakk, ruta Namkor', a film by Nic Good about the second ascent of Spitzkop, an enormous wall lost in Namibias desert. The Jury also assigned a Special Mention to Petar Lalovics 'Spas u penjanju' about a desert ant. In just 8 minutes the director manages to condense curiosity, stupor, suspense with a surprise finish in a short masterpiece about the irony of life. El Capitan, Yosemite, California. |
