Forbes votes PlanetMountain best climbing site
PlanetMountain has been voted best climbing site according to Forbes, the world's premier magazine for business and financial news.
We started the year off with some great news: PlanetMountain has been voted best climbing site according to Forbes.com, the world's premier magazine for business and financial news. In doing so it has received the prestigious accolade "Best of the Web Forbes Directory." The news is extremely pleasing, for various reasons. Firstly because the acknowledgment comes from none other than Forbes, an indisputably authoritative source. And secondly because PlanetMountain emerged favourite in an international selection, beating a series of high quality American sites. This is an important moment for internet, for the mountain online. We currently feel we've reached Advanced Base Camp. We're happy and proud of this award, and that a European Italian/English website is considered one of the best in its category. We said it a few days ago but we truly feel it's worth saying it once again: without you, your contributions, comments and criticism, all of this would not be possible. Thank you. The analysis by Forbes.com "Want an itinerary for ski mountaineering in Morocco? The complete lowdown on the best crags in Cuba? Although its emphasis is on alpine and mountain climbing, this handsomely designed site offers comprehensive information on worldwide climbing prospects of all sorts (rock, ice, snow), including getting there, accommodations, best time of year to go, route gradings, gear requirements, climbing notes - you name it. Unsurpassed for its information on European crags - from Sardinian sea cliffs to Slovenia's dramatic Ospo - there's particularly strong content on Italy's Dolomites, including a section devoted to their fabled Vie Ferrate ("iron paths"). Access interviews and photography via the Special click, and technical advice and gear tests via the Lab click. The 360-degree Quicktime panoramas from the Himalayas and the Alps let you literally "move" mountains. Best: The great trekking section features Beta (detailed climbing data) on some of the great Himalayan and Patagonian walks. Worst: Forums not always accessible, and when they are, many links are in Italian only. |
