The 28th Banff Mountain Festival came to a close yesterday after a week-long celebration of mountain films, books and photography. The Other Final, an uplifting film that examines the interplay of sports and culture, took the Grand Prize at the 28th annual Banff Mountain Film Festival. Johan Kramers film, which beat over 300 entries from 38 countries, tells the story of an officially sanctioned match between the lowest-ranked teams in international soccer - Bhutan and Montserrat. Played against a mountainous Bhutanese backdrop on the same day as the World Cup Final, this match is more about the love of the game than the final score. The Banff Mountain Book Festival was won by Escape from Lucania: An Epic Story of Survival by David Roberts. The riveting story recounts the 1937 first ascent of Alaskas Mount Lucania by two mountaineers who found themselves stranded on the mountain with inadequate gear and provisions due to bad weather and logistics. The Mountain Photography Competition was won by Fritz Muellers magically lit mountain photograph Autumn Sunset in the Heart of Tombstone, Tombstone Territorial Park, Yukon.
