Circa 2000 cubic meters of rock collapsed at 9:25am on Monday morning from Rocher du Mel de la Niva, a peak high above the small mountain village of Evolène in Switzerland’s Canton of Valais. According to Swiss sources, geologists had been monitoring the area since 2013 but given the recent increase in movements, as a precautionary measure the nearby hamlet of Arbey was evacuated on Sunday, including all livestock, and the state road was closed to all traffic. The rockfall did not hit the village nor the road and no one was injured.
